Mobile While vacationing in the Barbados, Winston had to
find a location to operate from and a means for setting up his station.

Winston's Story
I was born in Marmora, Ontario in 1941 and after my childhood in many locations in Southern Ontario, I moved to Toronto where I took my teacher training. I married and my wife and I moved to Oshawa, where my wife Lynda and I raised two daughters, Karina and Kristina.. I have long believed in the value of social action within my community. I set up a non-profit charitable organization and spent a combined total of about 17 years volunteering in jails, penitentiary and in our local psychiatric hospital. I also spent 25 years as an inner city teacher in Scarborough. While resting, I edited and produced a genealogical publication with over 500 readers. My favourite sport is lacrosse, and in the 60's, I was active behind the scenes in community lacrosse. I also had a lot of fun writing lacrosse stories for a sports newspaper. My proudest personal moment was when I received an Ontario citation for volunteerism. Like everyone, my life has had its exciting moments (When I moved my family to Europe and more recently when my life has taken some difficult turns) But, none of us receives a guarantee that we will travel a road without bumps. One of my great teachers in radio was an old Scot, who was my cb guru. I adopted his motto, "having fun is what its all about!" This applies both to life and to amateur radio. |

Ham Radio !
I have had a life long interest in radio. First, as a swl, and later as a cb freebander. This lit my fires to become a licensed radio operator. During my 7 years on hf, I have operated from the Belcher islands, and from Barbados. I was also a member of the first polar bear express dxpedition. While on a vacation in Antigua, I learned of the story of Caribbean Radio Lighthouse, as it battled hurricane Luis. This found its way as a story into Popular Communications. I have also been published in 73 and TCA. Regretably - no one else in my family caught my enthusiasm for radio, "dad's dumb hobby - I mean who gets on a telephone and talks about telephones?"
