Murray, VE2AUU of Laval, Quebec, is one of the more active hams on Amateur Radio today. He can be found controlling various nets, forwarding  information on times and orbits of passing amateur radio satellites to those who have requested it, providing input and up-to-date information on a variety of topics, assisting in emergencies by providing communications whether it be from his home, from his yacht or from his mobile.

As an EC (Emergency Co-ordinator) or an AEC (Assistant Emergency Co-ordinator) or as the Canadian National Co-ordinator for the ARRL, Murray has been involved in countless activities such  as: missing person searches, explosions, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, ice storms, major fires and much more.

At the age of 64, Murray has  53 years of ham radio experience to his credit. This in itself is most remarkable and is probably a feat that not many others have accomplished.

At the tender age of 11 years, he became a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator, built his first
transmitter to go on the air and has been active in radio communications and public service
organizations ever since. Murray, as an Instructor for the Montreal Amateur Radio Club, taught code and theory classes for many years helping hundreds of Hams get their licenses.

His many achievements in the realm of Ham Radio include:

  • The first automatic Ham Band repeaters in Canada during the late 1950's.
  • Submissions to the DOC to obtain permission for both repeaters and WIDE BAND FM ( 15 Khz deviation)
  • Started the TRANSCANADA Net  on 14.140 Mhz in early 1960's, as well as the Canadian calling frequency. These are still active today on the 20 meter band.
  • Started the Mobile Emergency Communication Corps (MECC) which held regular meetings and Ham activities and exercises for over a decade.
  • Had 7 repeaters licensed under his responsibility for approximately 20 years.
  • In 1998 he established a WWWsite for HAM RADIO EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS.

  •
This HAMEMERGENCY@yahoogroups.com can be used as a channel of communications between on the air active nets. It may also serve to disseminate traffic from the effected areas to and from required destinations. This is a fine way to incorporate the INTERNET into our hobby and services.

Murray is an innovateur, having been the first to get BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY to allow connections into their plugs (and lines) to facilitate the use of Paging and associated equipment.

He has been a creative "CONCEPT DESIGNER" for many modes such as VOICE communications in the paging business, was the first to invent, and put into operation through the use of "SILENT OPERATORS", AUTOMATIC direct dialing to a pager.

It was MURRAY'S persistance that gave CANADIANS the ability to use PAGING to its fullest with his ideas and developments which today are the "STANDARDS of the INDUSTRY".
