Bob VA3BIK

I was born in Galt Ontario (Cambridge) on August 17, 1939.

I served a 4 year apprenticeship in the electrical field and received my license in 1960. As time progressed I found that with the changes in technology, I was going to have to upgrade my skills.

I went to Conestoga College in Kitchener, Reliance Electric in Toronto and Cleveland Ohio and Kray in Arlington Heights MI. I wrote my Electronics Technician's license and then began my Electronics Technology courses.

I have been interested in Ham Radio since the early 1970's and messed around, until I finally got my ticket in April 1999. I try to stay active on the bands and give my support to Amateur Radio.
I hold two callsigns VA3BIK and VE3CRM.

My station consists of.....

Yaesu FT767GX 100 watt HF rig.
Drake TR4 MS4 AC4 250 watt HF rig for backup, or when extra punch is needed.
Dentron 160-10L linear amplifier. Never use it.
Dentron W2 watt meter.
MFJ 949E Deluxe Versa Tuner II antenna tuner
Viewstar 300A Transmach. Will tune a piece of string.
MFJ 482 Grandmaster keyer.
AEA PK88 TNC
Tempo (Henry Radio) 2 meter rig for base station. Old but good.
Kenwood TH-26 2 meter handheld.
Yaesu 208-R handheld for packet radio.
Nye paddle used with MFJ keyer.
40 meter dipole running NE/SW about 22 feet high
20 meter inverted V running East/West about 30 feet to the apex.
10 meter vertical, (converted CB antenna) at 20 feet.
486DX4 computer used for logging, packet and psk31 modes.
All the usual test equipment, scope, analogue/digital meters and frequency counters etc.

I am a member of the Brantford Amateur Radio Club and served 2 terms as Vice President. Our club is an Environment Canada Canwarn Station and I hold a position as one of three controllers.

I am married to my wife Isabella and have three daughters Miki, Denise and (Kim, still at home).
